Roots of Yggdrasil is the first area of Eg-Lana and the beginning of the game proper. The player will be treated to a short cutscene upon entering for the first time. Roots of Yggdrasil acts like an early-game hub with numerous gates leading to connected fields - players can expect to return here regularly.
Place a weight on the upper-left pedestal to open a path. Do not cross the path (it is lined with crushers); instead, throw shurikens from the right side to break the left wall, opening a path to the chest.
Hit the pillar beneath the golden rock five times with any weapon to break it, then use either the Lamp of Time or Holy Grail to avoid being crushed by the rock. Attack the destroyable part of the wall and use the Life Sigil to break the seal, unlocking the chest.
Somewhere along the way, a patch was released that changes this puzzle. Warping away resets the rock, and the Lamp of Time no longer freezes the rock. You now have to strike the rock four times, then make the fifth strike in a running jump, land on the platform created by chanting Iorð (see below) and quickly strike the destroyable wall before you are crushed. The Knife is recommended for this as it's a fast weapon.
Incanting Iorð in front of the Bust of Mimir will create a platform behind the pillar, but hiding beneath it will still lead to Lumisa being crushed by the rock.
Attack the eyes of the three goddess statues at (B-1), (D-1), and (F-1) to open the path to the room from (F-2). Drop down to (F-3) and break the snake bust dripping poison onto the Trickster to reveal the Ankh.
